Some pages are lighthearted while others discuss heavier topics like
death, birth, and mortality as the human experience .
I wanted all elements of the book to remain natural, hence the use of leaves, bamboo, and other miscellaneous hand-picked scraps. The natural elements also emphasize the book’s impermanence and the inevitable change that it will experience. Especially, since the bamboo and leaves will age over time.
The motif of a hummingbird is also used to depict the sweetness of life even though life may not always be so joyful. I wanted to highlight new perspectives on some of life’s more difficult topics in hopes of bringing clarity to the reader. As these are all parts of life that are meant to be embraced. Although a public audience will get to experience the book, it is also a book for me. I wanted to channel my self-written notes, book quotations, and photography in a cohesive way.
